The Korean War
When it had seemed as if all fighting had ceased, another war began. This time, North Korea invaded South Korea, resulting in the Korean war. Kim Il-sung was North Korea's leader at this time. Kim sent his army to attack the South Korean peninsula. Truman had averted his attention to over sea threats, that he did not see the attack coming. He did not hesitate to help though, and began sending troops to aide South Korea. Around this time, China and the Soviet Union began to aide North Korea. During this war, American Troops received orders from General Douglas McArthur, who was the commander of all US forces in Korea. Although President Truman did not have to worry about World War II anymore, he did have to worry about what the outcome of the Korea war would be. General Bradley even stated, "we must draw the line against communistic expansion somewhere" (Korean). When the war began to come to a close, America knew it was time to stop fighting and worry about what was happening back in the states.
